BROKEN WOGDOLL

I don't know if I ever posted this picture here. It's my all-time favorite photo of The Wog, and was taken when she was about 14 months old.

THE LITTLE MERWOG

Before I had a daughter, I would have come firmly down on the "no way!" side of this costume. But we just bought a dress-up closet for The Wog, and it came with our choice (sight unseen) of costumes: Snow White, Aurora or The Little Mermaid. She's never seen Snow White or Beauty and the Beast, but she is a big fan of The Little Mermaid. So it arrived yesterday. And it looks like this:

I have a feeling this thing will be able to walk (or swim?) on its own by the time The Wog's through with it. But in the meantime, I'll enjoy watching this sweet little girl wear a costume (skimpy as the case may be) that whisks her off and under the sea!

An update: The Wog's school had a delayed opening this morning, so she got to spend an extra two hours today wearing her mermaid getup. As she hobbled down the steps in front of me, I warned her to lift her skirt and descend with caution. She snootily informed me that it was not a skirt, but a "tail and a bra top." (Considering she used to call bras "booby things," I guess that's an improvement?)

WOGLAND'S BURNING, WOGLAND'S BURNING...

(If it's not immediately apparent, The Wog's outfit was of her own choosing today.)

BOHO CHIC(K)

The Wog was working a sweet outfit the other day. Her father said she looked a little too Hannah Montana, but I thought it was cute!

The picture below is included not for The Wog, but for The Doodle in the background, sneaking in a little catnap during the morning's newspaper, and preparing to eat a big sandwich:

(If The Wog's father can't find a place to put down his stuff when he comes in the door, why not on the dozing Doodle?)

THE DOODLE SAYS WHAT?

The Doodle says, "Mama!"

(I don't remember what The Wog's first word was--she was a babbler, so lots of first words--but The Doodle has one word, and one word alone. And while I had some initial doubts over whether it was intentional or happenstance, the fact that he said it nearly every time I entered a room today helped me draw a happy conclusion. My sweet little mama's boy!)

And a look at The Wog through the years:

SNOW WAY

The snow continues to fall and it's gotten to the point where no one blinks when the forecast is for another foot or so. No one blinks, that is, except for The Wog's father, who insists on doing all of our shoveling.

The Wog goes to school three mornings a week, and so far this winter they have had TEN snow days. At this rate, the local schools will be in session well into July.

The snow continued to pile up outside the windows. Soon we won't be able to see out. This is the view out of our kitchen window, and a side window, as well:

This is the view from our front door. I can't open the door because it's blocked by snow. See the little black thing poking out of the snow to the left of the tree? That's the tip-top of a buried lamppost!

No pictures of the kids as they have been felled by the flu, and pictures of sick kids aren't much fun. So a picture of our first child, instead, in her favorite chair:

"YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE DOODLE!"

I slicked back The Doodle's hair after his bath yesterday; his father thought he looked like Jack Nicholson.

THE WOG STRIKES BACK

We hit the lanes with The Wog and a few of her little friends over the weekend. She had a great time and did really well; in fact, I was amazed over how well we were all doing until I noticed the lane bumpers. No gutter balls! Ever!

FYI, it is not humanly possible to look cuter than The Wog in bowling shoes, so don't even try.

The Wog was very interested in the ball return:

THERE'S LOGIC, AND THEN THERE'S WOG-IC!

A couple recent Wogisms:

1.
During the drive home one day, I asked The Wog if she knew the name of her school. When I reminded her that it is (oh-so-cutely) called "Lilliputians," she paused, considered, and declared, "And Pollyputians, too!"

2.
We received a wonderful Valentine's Day care package from Minnie and Pop-Pop, which included an adorable pair of pajamas for The Doodle. I told The Wog that the lettering read, "I like trucks and dirt," to which she immediately responded, "I like princesses and hearts." The key to the gender divide--right there.

SNOW SNOW AND MORE SNOW

It really feels like the snow will never stop falling. I guess all my global warming talk last year--unusually devoid of snow--was just talk. Even the skiers can't wait for spring!

If not for the green shutters, our house might be entirely camouflaged by snow:

Scooby Scubaru is out and about, but our poor other car is trapped in the garage behind the wall of snow that falls off the metal roof:

If you look really closely to the left of the tree, you can see apples:
