IS THERE ANYTHING CUTER THAN...

...an overall-wearing Doodle chilling in a pink princess chair? I think not.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, POP-POP!

The Wog wishes Pop-Pop a very happy birthday. The Doodle (silently) concurs.

WRAPPING UP CHRISTMAS

More Christmas pictures may be headed my way from various other cameras, but for now here is the wrap-up. As usual, we took our farewell photo with Minnie and Pop-Pop before they headed back to NJ. Alas, The Doodle could not be bothered to wake up for the shoot.

Stopping by to see Memaire on our way out of town:

The Wog loved my parents' tree so much she attempted to hug it while exclaiming, "I LOVE Christmas!"

Not for Santa's eyes:

The Doodle enjoyed chilling with cousin JP. Quite the dapper fellows, don't you think?

Back at the farm(house), this year's decking the halls looked like this:

(Not much changed from last year, except for the plastic, LED light chandeliers hanging from the curtain rods in the living room. These were advertised as being "a little something to spice up your trailer home." Indeed!)

DOODLING THROUGH THE SNOW...

We had the chance to take Minnie and Po-Pop on one of our very favorite wintry excursions on their visit--a horse-drawn sleigh ride! The weather was pleasant, and the reindeer eager to eat the snacks offered up by The Wog, who was under the happy delusion that we were en route to the North Pole. During the ride, the sleigh driver delivered a tour of the historic inn's lovely grounds. He pointed out various destinations like the chapel, skating lake, multiple bonfires, etc. When he pointed out the pool, The Wog perked right up to exclaim, "The North Pool?"

(Ignore The Doodle's grunting--he's strapped to me as I'm taking the video--and Minnie and Pop-Pop's running commentary re: their photographic pursuits!)

HOW THE SHRIMP (ALMOST) STOLE CHRISTMAS

We attended the "Baby Jesus" mass at my parents' parish on Christmas Eve; the church was packed and we celebrated via "live feed" in an overflow room. The Wog and The Doodle enjoyed themselves nonetheless. Bell-ringing and caroling are always a hit with The Wog.

Afterwards, we attended Shrimpgate 2007 AKA Dinner at a Local Restaurant that Claimed to Have Run Out of Shrimp, but in Actuality Not Only Had Shrimp, but Had Giant, Delicious (Or So We Overheard from the Exclamations of Overjoyed Diners at Adjacent Tables) Ones. In time, we'll all look back and laugh, but for now the memory of The Shrimpmare Before Christmas is just too painful.

The Wog looked tres chic (but also, somehow, like a sad little beggar girl) in her outfit:

Preparing to beg for spare change. Or prawns. (Shrimpless! And on Christmas! I'll be sure to put up a Paypal button for those wishing to make a donation...):

The Doodle couldn't care less about crustaceans (or lackthereof), but did care about snuggling with Aunt MB:

Shrimp shortage scandal jokes aside, we had a wonderful night, and continue to enjoy and expand our Christmas Eve traditions (from setting the table for the next day's festive meal to one gift--jammies, of course!--before bedtime to baking a special treat for Santa) with Minnie, Pop-Pop and Aunt MB.

When we returned home that night, we set out our "homemade" (straight from the slice-and-bake tube, that is) cookies and water (which The Wog insisted Santa would prefer) for our anticipated midnight guest, and headed merrily off to our beds with visions of sugarplums--or shellfish, as the case may be--dancing in our heads.

The moral of this Christmas Story (up there with "You'll shoot your eye out"): Don't count your shrimp before they are hatched! (I just couldn't resist one last one...)

THE WOG VISITS WITH OLD FRIENDS (AND THE DOODLE MAKES NEW ONES!)

The Wog had a chance to visit with several old friends while we were in New Jersey. The Doodle, meanwhile, had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of several lovely little ladies.

Bee and Eva came by for lunch and playtime; we have missed these pretty little California girls so! The visit included the copious consumption of massive amounts of mac&cheese and an impromptu dance party amongst other things. I am hopeful for many future sleepover parties. I'm also their parents will send me better pictures than this one, which is somehow the only one I have.

(I'm going on the record here to say that Bee and Eva are also the children of future winners of The Amazing Race. I just know it!)

The Wog also met up with her energetic and adorable German-American (future) penpal during our trip. It was a semi-amicable encounter:) I was going on about how crazy these swings are and how the kids look like all they need is a beer and a remote control, until someone kindly pointed out that they are for disabled kids.

I don't know who loves The Wog's pink boots more: The Wog or me!

FILTHY BUT HAPPY; TIRED BUT CLEAN

(I just realized that the title of this post sounds like the lost lyrics of an Alanis Morisette song...)
